Here Are How Many UFO Sightings Have Been Reported in Indiana This Year

The idea that we are not alone in the universe is certainly nothing new. People across the country have reported seeing objects in the sky they couldn't explain. Plus, the thought of other lifeforms somewhere out there has essentially served as the basis for science fiction books, TV shows, and movies for several decades. Thanks to recent testimony on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. by former military officials who claimed the U.S. government knows way more about UFOs and the existence of aliens than they share publicly, talk of what else could be out there has ramped up again. Based on a website that tracks reported UFO sightings, Indiana is not immune to unexplained phenomena.

Indiana Residents Have Reported Over 30 UFO Sightings in 2023 So Far

The idea that aliens have been to Earth is a tricky one for me. While I think it's small-minded to think that in the infiniteness of outer space Earth is the only planet to have somehow managed to sustain life, I have a hard time believing that another race of beings have stopped by for a visit. Sure, people have videos and pictures they've shared over the years, but they're always grainy and hard to make out. Nearly every one of us carries video cameras in our pockets that can capture high-quality, 4K video footage, yet the best videos we seem to get look like they were shot on a camera from the 1960s that had Vaseline rubbed all over the lens.

With that said, some things are hard to explain with conventional wisdom, and technically the definition of a UFO doesn't necessarily mean whatever it is someone sees in the sky is from a distant planet. It simply means it's some type of flying object that can't be identified at that moment. But I'm not here to judge, I promise. Sightings happen all the time not just across the United States, but around the world. Maybe there is something to it.

The National UFO Reporting Center has been keeping track of reported sightings since it was founded in 1974. It launched its website 20 years later and has used it as the primary way for residents in every state to report their sightings.

With less than four months to go in 2023, Indiana residents have reported 32 sightings from the southern border to the northern border, and everywhere in between. The most recent sighting was reported a few weeks ago on July 27th when a Plainfield, Indiana resident reported seeing two objects floating above a Kroger grocery store in town. The report claims they were rotating counterclockwise with one "slowly drifting east one second then freezing."

Another report from a Seymour resident on April 25th claims they were driving on Highway 50 when they saw five horizontal lights traveling "at a moderate speed" from west to east. The report also says whatever the object was didn't have wings (like an airplane, I assume), went behind some trees, and disappeared.

Admittedly, my first reaction to reading these reports is that there has to be some logical explanation for what these people saw that didn't immediately come to mind. They could have been balloons or maybe some type of drone. But, I'm not completely dismissing the idea that they could have seen something "not of this planet," so to speak.
