These Indiana Towns Share Names With Famous Destinations Around the World
Who says that you have to hop on a plane and fly thousands of miles and spend thousands of dollars to see the world's most famous locations? That's just silly! The fact is you can visit super-popular international towns without ever leaving Indiana. Okay, that last sentence might be a little misleading. Maybe what I should have said is you can visit several Indiana towns with famous international names.
My friend shared an interesting graphic about Iowa towns that share names with famous cities. It got me thinking, and wondering what towns like that we had in Indiana. I knew we had to have some famous town names, so I turned to everyone's trusty friend, Chat GPT, to get the answers I was looking for.
- Fun Fact #1 - Indiana is home to 117 cities and 450 towns.
- Fun Fact #2 - A city must have a population of at least 2,000 people. A town is any incorporated community with fewer than 2,000 people.
Nobody expects you to know all 576 town and city names, but I can tell you that there are good ones. We've written about interesting Indiana towns on a few occasions in the past. For instance, here's an article about the Indiana towns with the longest and shortest names. You also might enjoy this article about Indiana towns with silly or funny names. Perhaps my favorite is this article that lists a bunch of Indiana towns with dirty-sounding names (it makes me giggle).

Out of those 576 names, there are a bunch of names you will recognize from all around the world. Indiana shares names with some of the oldest, most historic, and most popular destinations on the planet. The gallery below features some of my favorites.
