Why Central Indiana Residents Are Getting Scratch-N-Sniff Bills

As part of an awareness campaign, Citizens Energy Group is mailing scratch-n-sniff cards to all its customers in Central Indiana. The card is scented with mercaptan, the additive that gives natural gas its telltale rotten egg odor. Designed to help residents recognize the smell of a potential gas leak, the card also contains vital safety tips and information on how to avoid disrupting gas lines during home projects.

Citizens Energy Group Vice President J.P. Ghio explains, “This program is about giving our customers the tools to identify and respond to natural gas leaks. Sharing this card can increase awareness and keep our community safe.”

The cards are being mailed throughout December and will reach all customers by mid-January. Customers can even request additional cards through the Citizens website to share with family or friends.
