This study, conducted by the financial website WalletHub.com, is less about the results (grades, etc) of each state's education, and more about the level of schooling attained and the quality of education available in each state. Here's what WalletHub says...

Some states are able to provide better quality education than others, though. In this study, WalletHub compared all 50 states across 18 metrics that examined the key factors of a well-educated population: educational attainment, school quality, and achievement gaps between genders and races.

Kentucky is the 43rd Least Educated State

After the experts pulled all of the data and did all of their expert calculations, Kentucky ended up with a total score of 35.70, which puts them at #43 on the list. In the individual categories mentioned above, Kentucky ranked 45th in Education Attainment and 32nd in Quality of Education. One other metric worth noting is that Kentucky has the 46th lowest percentage of Bachelor's degree holders.

Indiana is the 40th Least Educated State

The Hoosier state scored just slightly better than our neighbors across the river, coming in at #40 on the list (a drop from #38 last year). Indiana ranked 41st when it comes to Educational Attainment, but interestingly ranked 11th in the country in the category of Quality of Education.
