I do the majority of cooking at my house, and I love it. But when you spend enough time in the kitchen, you are bound to eventually fail miserably (and hopefully hilariously). It can't be avoided - nobody's perfect - not professional chefs and certainly not home chefs.

Cooking at home is great for a number of reasons - not only can you show your family and friends some love through your dishes, but you can also save a bunch of money, and maybe learn a thing or two. Sometimes those lessons come after a failure. We asked our friends on Facebook to share some of their most memorable cooking failures, and they did not disappoint (even if their dishes did).

One of the most common mistakes we've seen has to do with heat - whether it's overcooking a meal or melting a piece of cookware. Microwaves, for example, can wreak havoc on a kitchen, especially when it comes to liquids. One wrong move and the inside of your microwave will be painted with spaghetti sauce. And. pf course, the risk of an actual fire is always just seconds away from us amateurs.

Another common cooking mishap has to do with the ingredients, like adding too much of one, omitting another, or mixing up your spices. Sugar and salt may look similar, but they certainly don’t taste the same.

And no list of cooking failures would be complete without the occasional battle with kitchen appliances. Blenders are certainly one of the main culprits. Better make sure that lid is on tightly, otherwise you'll be cleaning your smoothie off the walls!
