The Evansville Police Department will give an update on the EPD’s new Viper Unit at this month’s Traveling City Hall meeting. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 23, from 5:30pm-7pm at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 2227 W. Michigan St.

The Viper Unit, which stands for Violent Incident Prevention Enforcement and Response, was created last year as part of a proactive effort to monitor gang activity and aggressively target felons with outstanding warrants. From January 1, 2018 through May 10, 2018, the unit made 197 felony arrests and confiscated 22 illegal guns. During the program, Evansville police Sgt. Patrick Phernetton will discuss how the Viper Unit evolved and its focus on intelligence and outreach.
