A Henderson County High Grad Will Fly in the Owensboro Air Show

The Owensboro Air Show is just days away and the excitement is building. This year's show features the biggest lineup in the history of the event. With the Blue Angels returning to town and the F-22 Raptor Demo Team joining them, it's going to be an incredible show that's packed FULL of highlights.

Well, here's another one. This year's show is going to feature a female pilot from right here in the tristate. Lindsey Norwood, who's from Henderson, will be flying the HC-144 Sentry in the show Saturday and Sunday.

LTJG Norwood is a 2014 graduate of the Coast Guard Academy. She's currently stationed in Texas, but gets to make the fun trip home for the Owensboro Air Show this weekend.

In case you aren't familiar with an HC-144, check this out! It'll give you a bird's eye (or plane's eye) view of the aircraft. It's pretty awesome!

This weekend, Lindsey will be at the controls in the cockpit and, in doing so, will become just the second woman to pilot an aircraft in the Owensboro Air Show.

Lindsey is a graduate of Henderson County High School and studied Marine and Environmental Science at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy from 2014 to 2018. Immediately following her graduation from the Academy, she went to flight school at the U.S. Naval Base in Pensacola. As a matter of fact, she was one of just ten recruits selected that year.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Lindsey by phone Wednesday morning. She's currently stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas. Lindsey says she's always wanted to fly and that passion was cemented further when she was in JROTC at Henderson County High School. There, the late Lt. Col Keown was her instructor. He was a pilot and routinely shared his love of airplanes and being at the control of them. Lindsey knew she wanted to have that experience some day. And now, she lives it.

On August 28th, 2020, Lindsey graduated and got "winged." She's thrilled to get to come back to the tristate and show her family, friends and neighbors what she can do. By the way, this will be the very first airshow Lindsey has flown in and we're excited it's happening on very familiar turf.

Fun fact! Lindsey's husband is in the U.S. Air Force and serves on the air crew for B-52s. Flying and the love of planes is definitely a family affair.

And, speaking of family, I also spoke with Lindsey's mom, Tresia Critser. Tresia and Kenny Critser are incredibly proud of their daughter and can't wait to see her take the skies over the mighty Ohio River in downtown Owensboro Saturday and Sunday.
