If you've ever wondered what it's really like behind the scenes at the Evansville Police Department — or if you’re thinking about a career in law enforcement — the EPD’s Fall 2025 Community Academy is your chance to find out!
What Is the EPD Community Academy?
Formerly known as the Citizen’s Academy, this FREE 12-week program (August 12-November 4) is open to Evansville-area residents age 15 and older. It’s the perfect opportunity to connect with the men and women who serve our city, gain a better understanding of how law enforcement works, and maybe even get inspired to join the force someday.

Classes meet every Tuesday from 6 PM to 9 PM at the CK Newsome Center in downtown Evansville, starting this fall. Each week features a different department within the EPD — and trust us, you’ll be amazed by what you learn and see firsthand.
Hands-On Learning with Specialized Units
Expect up-close experiences with:
- The S.W.A.T. Team
- K-9 Unit demonstrations
- Bomb Squad
- Narcotics and VIPER Units
- Horse Patrol
- Crime Scene Unit
- Dispatch Center and Jail Tours
- Sex Crimes and Domestic Violence Units
- Homeless Outreach and CPO initiatives
Who Can Sign Up and How to Register
Spots are limited and fill up quickly, so don’t wait to register! If you're under 18, make sure a parent or guardian attends with you.
