Saturday, I had the pleasure of meeting Lisa and her daughters, Naomi and Kristi at Hanger's, a program of the EVSC Foundation. They came in search of formal dresses, to wear at their upcoming school dances.

Naomi is a Sophmore at Bosse, and her schedule is as busy as mine it - possibly more so! She puts in volunteer hours like a boss, and is looking to get into some graphics design courses at Southern Indiana Career & Technical Center.

Kristi was a little shy, but as soon as we found her the perfect blue dress, she lit up! Kristi is an 8th grader at Glenwood Leadership Academy. She is hoping to wear her new dress at the upcoming school dance, although the last one was cancelled.

Lisa is a single mom, working 2 jobs to support her daughters. They haven't lived in Evansville very long, and this was their first experience at Hanger's. This was a special event for any EVSC student, but if your family is in need of clothing or personal hygiene products, have your child ask for a Hanger's form, in their school office or call 812.435.8888 ext. 22212.

Once the paper is filled out and processed, your child will be able to pick out a week's worth of clothes, and other necessities.

Hanger's will host another 'Dress Blitz Day' this Saturday, November 9, 2019 from 9:00 A.M - 1: P.M. Girls are able to select 1 dress, at no cost. If they can't decide between 2 dresses, they may be able to purchase a second for $20. These are all high-quality dresses! Many of them still have the original tags on them.

Here's How to Help:

Right now they have a little over 300 dresses, in a variety of sizes. They do not have any handbags or clutches, so if you have some taking up closet space, please donate them to Hanger's. Hanger's is located at the AIS Diamond Campus (entrance off of Wedeking Ave.) and operate 3-4 days a week, depending on time of year. Normal operating hours are Monday-Thursday, 8:00 am-12:00 pm. Hangers is closed on EVSC snow days/days off. Summer hours are limited to donation drop-off only. Please check our Facebook page or call us to verify holiday hours, as they vary. You can also make monetary donations HERE.
