Local Fifth Grader Lands Big Break in A Christmas Story: The Musical

There’s nothing like being a kid at Christmastime—the magic, the excitement, the “I hope I get that one thing I’ve been hinting about since July.” And for one Evansville student, that holiday magic is turning into a real-life dream come true. Charlie Palmer, a fifth grader at Evansville Day School, is stepping into the national spotlight this week as he officially makes his professional acting debut in A Christmas Story: The Musical.

A Local Star on the Rise

Charlie recently landed the coveted role of Ralphie—yes, *the* Ralphie Parker—from the beloved Christmas classic. But this isn’t a school play or a local show. This is a professional off-Broadway traveling production**, which means Charlie is packing his bags, boarding tour buses, and taking his talent on the road.

If his name rings a bell, it’s probably because Charlie has already been impressing audiences around Evansville for years. He’s performed with the Children’s Theatre of Southern Indiana, building a reputation as one of those kids who doesn’t just show up and memorize lines—he "lives" the role. And now, the rest of the country is about to experience what local audiences already know: this kid has serious talent.

Hitting the Road for the Holidays

The tour officially kicks off this Friday in Biloxi, Mississippi, and will run through December 27. Charlie is set to take the stage in 24 performances, bringing Ralphie’s wide-eyed holiday hopes (and those classic hilarious moments) to life night after night. From the pink bunny suit to the iconic Red Ryder BB gun wish, Charlie is about to spend his December fully immersed in one of the most nostalgic Christmas stories ever told.

Evansville couldn’t be prouder. Big congratulations to Charlie Palmer! Your hometown is cheering you on every step of the way—and we can’t wait to see where your talent takes you next.
