Why Did Harwood Career Preparatory High School Move?

Earlier in 2023, the decision was made to restructure the Harwood school program.

To better serve students and families Harwood has moved! Harwood Centers are now located within each EVSC High School. They are open to students in grades 11 - 12 and offers an alternative learning environment geared to ensure students reach their maximum potential. Each student has an Individualized Service Plan or Individualized Educational Plan.

What is New Tech Institute (NTI)?

There is some confusion as to what New Tech High School is and why it is a different type of learning environment within the EVSC. My son is a Freshman at NTI. We chose to apply for this particular high school because of the project-based learning, with a focus on STEM education (Science Technology Engineering, and Math) and Entrepreneurial Leadership.

NTI has been located on the back side of the Southern Indiana Career & Technical Center (SICTC) on Lynch Road in Evansville. The two schools are often confused as being one large school. The 250 New Tech students utilize two hallway areas, and a small cafeteria, they do not have a gym, lockers, or an auditorium.

SICTC has been growing by leaps and bounds in the past few years. These specialized classes are open to Juniors and Seniors in North and South Gibson, Spencer, Posey, Vanderburgh, and Warrick counties.

The Thunderbolts on the Move

No, not Evansville's hockey team. The NTI Thunderbolts mascot is named after the P-47 Thunderbolt airplanes used in World War II, and built in Evansville. As a parent, it will take some getting used to the new school building. Also, beginning the second half of the school year in a new location will be full of challenges and opportunities for both the students and faculty.

EVSC New Tech STEM Fest 2024

The public is invited to see the students in action with free hands-on activities on Saturday, February 24, 2024.

The students, staff, and parent group at EVSC New Tech High School are excited to invite everyone to the EVSC New Tech STEM Fest at our new First Avenue home! We will have over 50 FREE STEM activities hosted by area colleges, businesses, organizations, and New Tech students!
