Developers Have Plans For Abandoned Southern Indiana Clarion Inn on Highway 41 North
The area of Highway 41 North and Lynch Road in Evansville has been going through some light demolition. I say light because it seems like it has taken years for the former Clarion Inn to be torn down. It's really just been a few months, but it looks like the majority of the old hotel is gone.
It was built in 1973, and most residents remember it as the Holiday Inn. The hotel has deteriorated and is quite an eyesore. The property was purchased in March of 2022, but no work had been done until recently.
Vote Yes to Rezone
The Evansville City Council voted to approve rezoning for the property at the corner of Highway 41 North and Lynch Road. Ayse Schablik is the local developer who owns the property and requested the change.
What Does the Rezoning Mean?
The land was listed as M-2 which is an area zoned for heavy equipment and industrial business. It is now a C-2 zone which is for commercial use. This is just the basic definition, there are a lot of different guidelines for each zone.
What's Next for the Property?
In the owner's petition to rezone, it states that the land will be used for a commercial hotel and apartments. I would imagine that when the construction begins, it might get a little noisy for the employees at the Circle K gas station that is sandwiched in that corner.
