There’s great news for Purple Aces fans: Head Men’s Basketball Coach David Ragland is here to stay! The University of Evansville announced that Coach Ragland has signed a contract extension, a move that reflects the direction and energy he’s brought to the program.

UE Athletics Director Dr. Kenneth “Ziggy” Siegfried praised Ragland for being a leader who “does things the right way - on and off the court.” He highlighted Ragland’s ability to recruit talented student-athletes who embody the university’s values, his authentic care for players, and his influence throughout the athletics department. “This extension shows our belief in his vision,” Siegfried said. “We’re committed to working together to bring Purple Aces Basketball back to the level of excellence fans and alumni know and love.”

And that work is already showing results. In just his second season, Coach Ragland led a dramatic 12-game improvement, finishing the 2023-24 season with 17 wins, the most since 2017-18. The Aces even opened the season with a perfect 6-0 record, something not seen since the legendary 1964-65 National Championship team.

Despite injuries in 2024-25, the team stayed strong and earned eight Missouri Valley Conference wins - its best performance in nearly a decade. Individual players have also thrived, racking up numerous MVC honors. Notably, Connor Turnbull was named the 2025 MVC Defensive Player of the Year.
