Drone Ban in Effect During West Side Nut Club Fall Festival: What You Need to Know
The 103rd Annual West Side Nut Club Fall Festival is next week, and with it comes a week of fun, food, and festivities! But before you get ready to capture all the excitement with your drone, there's something important you need to know.
The FAA Says "No Fly Zone" for Drones During the Fall Festival
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) for the duration of the Fall Festival. This means that flying drones over the festival grounds is prohibited for the general public.
Why the Restriction?
The FAA prioritizes safety in our skies. Certain restrictions are put in place for large gatherings like the Fall Festival to ensure the safety of everyone attending. With hundreds of thousands of people enjoying the festivities, drones pose a potential risk.
Evansville Police Department:
As drones become more prevalent in society the risk of an accidental or intentional crash increases. A crashing drone could cause serious injury. The Evansville Police Department has been in collaboration with the West Side Nutt Club, and local, regional, and federal agencies to ensure a safe environment for this year‘s Westside Nut Club Fall Festival.
When and Where Does the Restriction Apply?
The drone restrictions will be in effect daily from October 6th to 12th, 2024, between 9:00 AM and 10:00 PM CDT. The restricted area covers a 1-mile radius from the center of the festival grounds (coordinates: 37° 58’ 49.85”N, 87° 35’50.14”W).
What Happens if I Fly My Drone Anyway?
The FAA takes drone safety seriously. Operating a drone within the TFR zone could result in fines of up to $75,000 per violation. Your drone operator's license could also be suspended or revoked.
