Back in the 80s and 90s, the Holiday Inn in Princeton, Indiana was a very popular spot for locals, travelers, and even celebrities.

I remember walking into the atrium area of the Princeton Holiday Inn and having the smell of chorine smack me in the face. I loved seeing the boat and really hoped that monkeys were on it (Like at Mesker Park Zoo). There was a restaurant and a place for live music.

Long Time Coming

Time has not been kind to this massive hotel. It has changed names over the years, but it was never really remodeled. With more new hotels in town, The Express Inn most recently housed seasonal workers.

The property has since been demolished. Soon, it will be home to a new Hucks Food & Fuel.

Saying Goodbye to The Princeton Belle

The giant paddle boat and water feature were pretty unique features for a hotel in the 80s. The paddle really worked and gave off a relaxing sound.

Hello Dolly!

I've heard stories about different celebrities staying at the Holiday Inn when they were passing through Princeton. Loretta Lynn, the Oakridge Boys, and Dolly Parton all stayed in Princeton. I have to share what my friend Ralanna had to say about meeting Dolly.

I was around 5 or 6 when I met Dolly. ('79-'80) Mom and I always went walking in the Tower Heights neighborhood in the early evenings, and our path took us around the hotel. One evening, as we were walking toward the back parking lot, we noticed a beautiful tour bus sitting there. It didn't have any names or pictures on it, so we had no idea whose bus it was until Dolly and her crew came flying out. I knew instantly who she was because my dad was a huge country music fan. I remember waving and saying, "Hi, Dolly!" She came over, gave me a hug, and talked to my mom for a little bit before heading into the hotel.
