Here’s Why Having a Plethora of Dollar General Stores in Evansville is a Good Thing
There are nineteen Dollar General stores in Evansville. That equals around 6,100 people per Dollar General store. Soon that number of stores will be twenty. There are plans for another Dollar General Store near the Deaconess Sports Park.
Another Dollar General Store?
I can hear the grumbles right now. I feel ya. When I saw the post from Evansville 411 NEWS announcing the construction of another Dollar General store, I felt the same way at first.
Dollar General Literacy Donations
I decided to go straight to the source to figure out why the Evansville, Indiana area has so many Dollar General stores. I found some really cool information about how the company gives back to communities in the news section at Dollargeneral.com.
At a recent grand opening of the first DG in Montana, an elementary school was awarded a $10,000 literacy donation. How awesome is that? This act of generosity is just a glimpse of the larger impact the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has had over its 30-year history, with over $238 million awarded to support educational programs nationwide.
I looked into how that came about and now it makes sense to have as many Dollar Generals as the city can hold.
Dollar General Literacy Foundation
Nonprofit organizations, schools, and libraries within a 15-mile radius of a Dollar General store are eligible to apply for Dollar General Literacy Foundation grants, which support adult, family, summer, and youth literacy programs. Celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2023, the Foundation has awarded more than $238 million to support nearly 20 million individuals to improve their lives through literacy and education.
