How many times have you seen a spider and immediately thought that it was a brown recluse? Chances are, it wasn't a brown recluse, and it probably did not want anything to do with you.

All Bugs Go To Kevin

If you are not a member of the Facebook group All Bugs Go To Kevin, hop over and join if you want to be educated about the bugs in our lives. Kevin Weiner started this group to share facts, not fear about the insect world. He was able to overcome his fear of spiders after a career as an exterminator. Now, Kevin travels and shares his story, and it is helping others to conquer their fears.

Brown Recluse Spiders - Fact or Fiction?

I will admit that anytime a giant spider drosses my path, I assume it's a brown recluse or a black widow. After chatting with Kevin and actually seeing a brown recluse, I realized that I've never actually seen one before. During his visit, Kevin shared that most of the time, when someone thinks they were bitten by a brown recluse, they are mistaken.

No one has ever lost a limb or any other body part from a brown recluse spider bite. It was more likely a staph infection or something like that. Brown recluse spiders do not hunt down people to bite them. You would have to step on one or try to smash it with your hands to get bitten.

Kevin in The Wild

Kevin Weiner now travels and puts on educational programs to show folks that bugs are useful. And yes, he brings some friends with him. I held the tralanchula, but the brown recluse moved a little too fast for my liking!

Tips to Prevent Spider Bites

No one likes to get bug bites, especially from spiders. After all, we're told from a young age that some spiders are deadly. Besides that, they can be uncomfortable and swell up.

But there are ways to help prevent yourself from getting bit in the first place. Here are ten tips from the Washington State Department of Health.
