Beyonce Faces $20 Million Lawsuit Over ‘Formation’ Sample
Beyonce is reportedly facing a lawsuit from the estate of late rapper Messy Mya -- born Anthony Barre -- who claims the "Sorry" singer used a sample from one of the YouTube personality's videos without express permission.
Lemonade lead single “Formation” allegedly includes a clip from the New Orleans rapper's 2010 video, titled “A 27 Piece Huh?” according to TMZ.
Barre’s estate alleges Beyonce failed to ask for permission before lifting the “I like that” phrase from the video. They also claim the “Daddy Lessons” singer’s team has not responded to the estate’s many attempts at contact, and they’re asking for more than $20 million in back royalties and other damages.
