It is widely believed that the notion of having a "Father's Day" was originally conceived to honor a single father. The story goes that back in 1910, a young woman wanted to honor her father for all of the hard work he had done raising her - he was a veteran of the Civil War and a widower, raising six children on his own. Since that is the origin of Father's Day, it seems pretty fitting to release a report like this one, which examines the best (and worse) places for single dads to live.

The Not-So-Good News

I am a lifelong Hoosier, so I would love to tell you that a city in Indiana was at or near the top of this list. Heck, I would even take a top 25 or 50 ranking - but that is not the case. It makes me sad to say that out of the 200 cities included in this report, my hometown of Indianapolis is ranked 172nd, making it one of the worst places for a single dad to live.

Which Cities Are the Best?

According to this report, if you're looking for the best cities for a single dad to live in, you're gonna need to head West - that's where four of the top five cities are located. Check out those results...

  1. Bellvue, WA
  2. Irvine, CA
  3. Naperville, IL (less than six hours from Southern Indiana)
  4. Fremont, CA
  5. Sunnyvale, CA

There was a bunch of data collected for this report, way more than I am able (or willing) to share in this article. You get the gist, though, right? You can see the rest of the report, if you're interested, HERE.
