The Safest College in America is in Indiana – Here’s Where
For those attending college, it can be a time for intellectual exploration, personal growth, and preparing to enter the "real" world. For parents of those attending college, it can be a time of stress and worry. Knowing your student will be safe can be a major factor in determining which college to attend.
What is America's Safest College/University?
If you prefer data over anecdotal evidence, you should check out the recent study from Academic Influence which names the 15 safest colleges in America. The study considered a college’s safety programs, crime prevention strategies, and general security infrastructure, including the following elements.
- Compliance with the Clery Act
- Various security features
- Low crime statistics
- Mental health services
Indiana is Home to America's Safest College
Once all of the data was gathered and the proverbial numbers were crunched, it was determined that PURDUE UNIVERSITY is the safest college in America. School officials credit the campus police department for helping Purdue achieve this ranking. The PUPD does many things to keep students safe, including:
- Patrolling the campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Provide security services for all large campus events.
- Offer a Safe Walk program.
- Provide a public (online) log each day that documents all crimes reported to the department.

In addition, Purdue's campus features nearly 300 emergency telephone call boxes, students have access to mental health services, and can receive free rides on city buses with a Purdue ID. Purdue's President, Mung Chiang, is obviously very proud of the school's #1 ranking...
Safety is always the top priority at Purdue. We thank the outstanding work 24/7 by the professional colleagues and appreciate the safety mindset of over 60,000 members of the West Lafayette campus. This ranking is another reflection of our continued focus on safety.
