The University of Evansville Athletic Department issues a press release Wednesday announcing Senior Guard, Blake Simmons' season is over before it begins after suffering a knee injury during a recent off-season workout.

Head Coach Marty Simmons, Blake's father, issued the following statement through the aforementioned press release,

Our main concern is with Blake, we want to make sure to get him back to 100% next year...He does so many of the intangibles that do not show up on the box score.  It is a big loss for our team, but it will give other guys the opportunity to step up.  It will also be important to have Blake’s leadership at practice and during games this season.

The specifics of what caused the injury, or the specific nature of the injury was not specified within the release, however reporter Daniel Allar, who covers the Aces for the Evansville Courier & Press is reporting an MRI on Tuesday revealed Simmons suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear.

Simmons averaged 5.9 points and 2.9 assists last season, and is expected to redshirt this season which will allow him to return to the team next year for what will be his final season.
