Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Deputy Chris Roe got a visit from his little buddy Manny at the 4H Fair. He’d made the deputy a special gift – his 4-H project – and wanted to show him what he’d made.

The two met a few years ago at Donut Bank when Manny and his mom Laura and little brother Luis came to Coffee with a Cop. During that first meeting Chris told Laura about the 911 Gives Hope and PAL boxing program, so she started to bring Manny to the gym. The child had been struggling in school at the time bringing home mostly Cs. But now, after some mentoring from Chris, Manny is bringing in all As and Bs.

“He is one of the best boxers I’ve seen as kid his age,” Chris said. “I can’t put into words how special this kid is or the love his family has for law enforcement. Thank you Manny for the special gift.”

When I saw what Manny made Chris, I got a lump in my throat. This is the sweetest 4H project ever!

Manny is 7 years old going into 3rd grade at Harper.
