It’s Peak Season for Apples at Evansville’s Farmers Markets & Orchards
Apples are one of my daily addictions. I've gotta have one every day! I like to grab one in the morning before I head to work. They're also great to eat in the car, at work, at the hair salon (which I do at times, lol) or anywhere! The good thing is there's plenty of apples available during peak season.
Peak season for apples is September through November. Whatever your favorite variety may be, they're plentiful and they're so good for you, too!
Engelbrecht's Orchards, located at 16800 Old Petersburg Road in Evansville, let's you pick your own apples and currently they have many varieties including Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Mutsu, Fuji, and more.
Mayse Farm Market located at 6400 N St Joseph Ave, Evansville, has a wide variety of apples including a new crop of Gala, Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Jonathon, Fuji and Honey Crisp.
Just like the old saying goes, "An Apple A Day, Keeps the Doctor Away". There's plenty of great health benefits from eating apples:
- They help lower bad cholesterol and high blood pressure.
- They help stabilize blood sugar and boosts good cholesterol.
- Apples work as an appetite suppressant
- They contain flavonoids that are cancer-fighting antioxidants.
- They contain vitamins A & C.
Remember your local farmer's markets are another place to purchase local apples too!
Downtown Evansville Farmer's Market is open through September 29th and Historic Newburgh Farmer's Market is open through September 30th.
