Jason Sands, Executive Director of Evansville Sports Corp, along with the help of Mayor Lloyd Winnecke, announced on Monday the Ford Center will play host to the 2017 National Theater on Ice Competition June 21st through the 25th.

According to the official bid form on the US Figure Skating Website, Theater on Ice is, "a form of competitive figure skating that combines the grace of figure skating with the excitement of theater and dance. Teams consist of between eight and 30 skaters."

30 skaters?!?! All on the ice at one time? Now THAT'S something I'd like to see.

The 2017 competition will be the 10th anniversary of the event, and is expected to draw more than 4,500 people to the Ford Center, host 1,700 skaters, and book 5,500 hotel rooms in and around the Evansville area according to a press release provided by Evansville Sports Corp.

Evansville's own River City Ice Theatre will be a part of the event as well. The team has competed in the last four national competitions, and will compete in this year's event in Birmingham, Alabama June 30th through July 3rd.

To get an idea of what we're in store for next year, take a look at the River City Ice Theatre's performance from last year's national competition in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
