What a great year for our Evansville Otters. Fresh off winning the Frontier League championship, we learn that another Otters players has been signed by a Major League franchise.

After a stellar summer on the mound, pitcher Matt Wivinis has been signed by the New York Yankees!

Wivinis is a native of Downers Grove, Ill. native and played ball at Eastern Illinois University. He finished the regular season 4-0 for the Otters with a 1.58 ERA. In the postseason, Wivinis went 2-1 with a 3.92 ERA in three starts, helping the Otters win the Frontier League title for the first time in 10 years and the franchise’s second overall.

Wivinis pitched seven innings in Game 1 of the FLDS against Joliet, giving up two hits and one earned run. He also gave the Otters a 1-0 lead in the FLCS against River City, pitching eight solid innings while striking out six. Wivinis pitched Game 4 in the championship series for his final appearance with Evansville.

Wivinis joins Max Duval and Ryan Atkinson (both with the Arizona Diamondbacks) as Otters’ players signed by affiliated organizations this season.
