With so many people out there trying to scam us out of money claiming to be someone they're not, it's totally understandable why you would be skeptical of someone offering you money over the phone. Heck, I don't even answer my phone if the call isn't from someone in my contacts list. But, if you're a Dish Network customer, there is one call you call you should at least consider listening to.

According to Simplemost.com, a court ruling ordered Dish Network to pay out $61.3 million dollars to over 18,000 people they called between May and August of 2011 who they knew were on the National Do Not Call List database. That comes to the aforementioned $1,200 per person. But here's the thing, the people they're trying to reach by phone, or by U.S. Mail to tell them they have cash coming their way aren't responding (because, you know, that whole "scam" thing).

If you're still a little leery about the whole thing, there is a way to find out if you're eligible to receive some cash. All you need to do is visit the website of the consulting firm that's handling the settlement claim and enter your name, address, and the phone number you received the call through, as well as answer a couple of yes or no questions to find out if you're going to get paid.

Even though this is a legitimate claim, and the call you receive is also legitimate, now that the news is out there making it's way around the internet, it's certainly possible someone out there will try to use this to their advantage and pretend to represent Dish Network in order to try and scam you out of cash. Keep in mind, if someone ask you for a credit or debit card number, or bank account information, don't give it to them. It's likely a scam.
