Digital Job Hub: Electric Substation Engineer [Vectren]
Under general direction, completes the engineering Electric Substation detailed design and specifications, material procurement requests, and construction support and project management for electrical substations within the Energy Delivery area of Vectren. The Engineer is required to participate in the after-hours emergency response rotation. Work with staff to include Land Services, Legal, Environmental, Engineers, etc. to help procure Right-of-Way and Easements for substation projects. Follow documented practices and guidance to design substation and transmission projects. Using GIS, Maximo, AutoCAD, and/or other software applications, provide plans, details, schematics, wiring diagrams and other documents as required for substation projects. Design and develop cost estimates for gas or electric system capital or maintenance projects. Advanced Engineering Application – Modelin g/Network Analysis. Gas or electric system network analysis/modeling/simulation applications. Must also have experience in Process Development/Improvement.
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or other engineering field with appropriate experience.
Work Experience Essential: 4 – 6 years of technical background with an in-depth knowledge of engineering and operational practices in electric utilities with a minimum of 3 years specific to substation design.
Preferred: 6+ years of experience in electric substation or transmission line design or electric system planning. A strong orientation toward customer service. Excellent understanding of MS Excel, to include formulas, sorting and filtering large spreadsheets. High proficiency for creating wiring diagrams for both AC and DC systems to include high level ladder logic, abnormal conditions, and understanding faults. Working knowledge of protective devices for overcurrent, ground fault, lightning protection, and other systems common within electric substations. Working knowledge of communications, automation, and SCADA systems.
