From Queen Bey to Queen of the Jungle? Jon Favreau, who's directing the upcoming remake of The Lion Kingis eyeing Beyonce as his top pick for the film's female lion queen lead, Nala.

Variety reported yesterday (March 30) that Bey is the leading contender to star opposite Donald Glover — who's been cast to play Simba — in the live-action remake of the 1994 Disney cartoon feature. James Earl Jones, who voiced Mufasa in the original film, has also signed on to reprise his role.

Beyonce, who announced she was pregnant with twins in February, has yet to confirm her casting, but Variety reports those behind the project are willing to bend over backwards to secure her as Nala. Bey's already pulled out of the upcoming Coachella festival, where she was scheduled to serve as headliner.

The original Lion King film raked in just shy of $1 billion worldwide at the box office. Favreau, who directed the recent Jungle Book remake, is hoping a Lion King remake would elicit a similar nostalgic draw to audiences.

Unsurprisingly, the Beyhive eagerly endorsed the rumored casting choice on Twitter. One fan wrote "The soundtrack about to be lit & she will slay. Let's MAKE IT HAPPEN," while another noted "If this is the case they need to make Nala the lead character and rename it THE LION QUEEN."
