This time of year everyone is talking about their favorite Christmas movie(s). Is it A Christmas Story, or White Christmas, or maybe it's Elf? There are certainly a bunch of great choices.

But what if you're in the mood for something a little darker...something a little less than traditional? These six flicks definitely fall in that category and would make a great alternative this holiday season.

1. Die Hard

I don't care what anyone says, this IS a Christmas movie! And it's one of the best action movies of all time. It's a friggin' classic!

2. Trading Places

A young Eddie Murphy, Dan Akroyd and Jamie Lee Curtis star is this great comedy about a social experiment pulled off by a couple of old, bored, rich dudes. That's it in a nutshell. It's so worth a watch!

3. The Ref

Despite having some pretty big names, this might be one you haven't heard of. Denis Leary and Kevin Spacey, along with Christine Baranski and Judy Davis, star in this dark comedy about a burglar (Leary) who gets stuck in house with a super dysfunctional family during their Christmas celebration.

4. Bad Santa 1& 2

You definitely don't want to watch these with your family. Definitely not for those who are easily offended. Think of it as a modern day, very adult version of the Grinch...kinda sorta. Billy Bob Thornton stars as one of the worst people you've ever seen. By day he works as a department store Santa...by night he drinks, smokes and makes plan to rob said department store. He partakes in some other activities that I really shouldn't mention here.

5. Krampus

Krampus is the rather dark, frightening, other-end-of-the-Christmas-spectrum, counterpart to Santa Claus. The legend describes a scary looking half-goat, half-demon that punishes children who have been misbehaving. In this horror-comedy, a family gets a surprise visit from the anti-St. Nicholas. You'll recognize actors Adam Scott (Parks & Rec), David Koechner (Anchorman) and Toni Collette (The Sixth Sense).

6. Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale

I'm gonna keep it real with ya...I haven't seen this one yet, I've wanted to see it for a while and this is my year! This a foreign film that is a straight-up thriller/horror flick. The premise is this, Santa Clauses are a wild creature that are captured and sold for big money.
