What does a ballet, a musical and pets all have in common? They are apart of the four fun happenings I found for you and your family for this weekend. Enjoy!

Moscow Ballet's 'Great Russian Nutcracker'

The Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker will bring its 25th Anniversary Tour to Evansville at 7 p.m. Thursday at Aiken Theatre.

Tickets start at $28 and are available online at ticketmaster.com.

The show will feature puppets, nesting dolls, and hand-crafted costumes.

'Elf Junior, the Musical' by D'Alto

Thursday through Sunday at D'Alto Studio-Performing Arts, 303 S. Stockwell Road.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students and available online at daltoperformingarts.thundertix.com or at the door while supplies last.

The silly comedic musical has a heart-warming message, though, of Buddy giving his all to not only win over his dad but also help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.

Handel's 'Messiah' by Candlelight by EPO

7 p.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Purchase tickets at evansvillephilharmonic.org.

Under the direction of Evansville Philharmonic Music Director Alfred Savia, the baroque-size orchestra with musicians from EPO will join the Evansville Philharmonic Chorus for the 18th-century masterpiece in a traditional setting -- the sanctuary of Trinity United Methodist Church.

There is a free dessert reception after the concert.

Empty the Shelter adopt-a-thon

The Vanderburgh Humane Society is hoping to find a home for every adoptable animal in their building to “empty” the shelter.

10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the shelter.

During the two-day event, 100 percent of adoption fees will be waived for all adoptable animals including dogs, cats, and rabbits. There are no puppies available.

All other normal adoption procedures are still in place including the adopters filling out the application and providing a valid ID. Volunteers will be on hand to help match pets with families. The event is open to everyone over 18, even those outside of Vanderburgh County.

Seether: Poison the Parish World Tour

The concert begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday with tickets available at Ticketmaster outlets or the Ford Center box office starting at $36.
